How it works
Premixed insulins contain a fixed ratio of rapid- or short-acting insulin with intermediate-acting insulin, covering both mealtime and background needs. They typically start working within 15–30 minutes, peak at around 2–4 hours, and last 10–16 hours.
Typical use
Often prescribed to simplify injection schedules. Usually injected twice daily before meals in people who need both mealtime and basal insulin in one shot.
Storage & handling
Refrigerate unopened pens or vials (2–8°C). Roll gently before use to mix contents evenly. In-use pens may be stored at room temperature for up to 28 days.
